This hack was developed on Ubuntu
This video shows xbmc as an airplay target. The hack is actually running on a Ubuntu Box. It involves XBMC (of course), Avahi for broadcasting the airplay service and a custom python script which handles the interaction with the iPad.
Special thanks goes to Erica Sadun who released AirPlayer earlier this month. This was the software which let me discover the world of AirPlay
What is currently working:
* Select a video/podcast/serie on the iThing (should also work in other iThings) and launch it on xbmc.
* Play/Pause of the video through the controls on the iThing.
* Switch back the video to the iThing.
* Seeking in the timeline on the iThing.
What is currently not working:
* Playback of Youtube videos. XBMC cannot handle the files.
Known Bugs:
* When resuming the video back to the iThing it's paused even if the interface say it's not. This need some more work.
* When launching a video for the second time xmbc asks wheter it should resume or start over again. Don't know how to fix that.
Actually there is no code in the in the SVN. All the code is just a Python scripts which launches a server on the port 22555. Some work would need to be done here again in order to make a nice xmbc-plugin. But I have know knowledge in this domain.
The choosen approach in the python is script may not be the simplest one. In fact, the script depends upon the Twisted framework. I spend most time decoding and describing the protocol.

Furhtermore python needs the Twisted framwork. It can be installed with apt-get install python-twisted.

* Adapt the play2wifi.cfg script (at least line 3 to whatever port xbmc web interface is running). This parameter can also be overwritten with the -p startup parameter.
* Launch the script python play2wifi.py.
* Launch a video/podcast on the iThing and switch it over to xbmc.

"Hold My Hand" (Duet with Akon). "Hold My Hand" is the first official single from Michael Jackson's upcoming new album, MICHAEL. "Hold My Hand", a duet with Akon, is a song they recorded in 2007. A handwritten note from Michael belonging to his Estate indicated his desire that "Hold My Hand" be the first single on his next project. Semantic Web
Semantic Web - W3C: "W3C is helping to build a technology stack to support a “Web of data,” the sort of data you find in databases. The ultimate goal of the Web of data is to enable computers to do more useful work and to develop systems that can support trusted interactions over the network. The term “Semantic Web” refers to W3C’s vision of the Web of linked data. Semantic Web technologies enable people to create data stores on the Web, build vocabularies, and write rules for handling data. Linked data are empowered by technologies such as RDF, SPARQL, OWL, and SKOS."
Linked Data
The Semantic Web is a Web of data — of dates and titles and part numbers and chemical properties and any other data one might conceive of. RDF provides the foundation for publishing and linking your data. Various technologies allow you to embed data in documents (RDFa, GRDDL) or expose what you have in SQL databases, or make it available as RDF files.
Vocabularies
At times it may be important or valuable to organize data. Using OWL (to build vocabularies, or “ontologies”) and SKOS (for designing knowledge organization systems) it is possible to enrich data with additional meaning, which allows more people (and more machines) to do more with the data.
Query
Query languages go hand-in-hand with databases. If the Semantic Web is viewed as a global database, then it is easy to understand why one would need a query language for that data. SPARQL is the query language for the Semantic Web.
Inference
Near the top of the Semantic Web stack one finds inference — reasoning over data through rules. W3C work on rules, primarily through RIF and OWL, is focused on translating between rule languages and exchanging rules among different systems.
Vertical Applications
W3C is working with different industries — for example in Health Care and Life Sciences, eGovernment, and Energy — to improve collaboration, research and development, and innovation adoption through Semantic Web technology. For instance, by aiding decision-making in clinical research, Semantic Web technologies will bridge many forms of biological and medical information across institutions.

Motorola Droid X
The four usual Android buttons are situated below the screen. They feel good and have excellent travel and feedback.
The Droid X has a 1GHz processor.
There are seven home screens, which can fit gobs of user content, apps, widgets, shortcuts and so on. Motorola and Verizon have pre-loaded pretty much every screen with at least a few apps and widgets. One thing that's awesome: the widgets can be resized. They aren't locked into one size. You can crop and resize them at will.
The Droid X runs Android 2.1, but Motorola has taken some of the elements of its Motoblur software and incorporated them into the user interface. Social networking apps.
My favorite new feature is the visual bookmarks Motorola is now using in the Android browser. Similar to Apple's CoverFlow, you can scan through your browsing history and bookmarks and float past 3D images of your favorite sites. Very cool.
Based on the few moments we've spent with the Droid X, it is a sure-fire winner. Verizon Wireless and Motorola are going to sell bazillions of these things. It impresses all the way around. We can safely say that Motorola knocked it out of the park.

Embedding 4G technology into laptops and netbooks makes all the senses and easy for consumers to experience Clear’s WiMAX mobile Internet service which is supposed to be supper fast.

National MS Society
A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory committee today recommended that the agency approve marketing of fingolimod capsules (formerly called Gilenia, Novartis International AG) for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis. If approved, fingolimod would be the first oral disease-modifying therapy for the treatment of MS. While the FDA is not required to follow the recommendations of its advisory committees, it usually does. According to Novartis, the agency is expected to make a final decision about whether to approve the drug in September 2010.
Among its discussions, the advisory committee recommended that fingolimod be approved at the dose (0.5 mg once daily) recommended by Novartis and that:
• Fingolimod demonstrated substantial evidence of effectiveness for the treatment of relapsing MS to reduce the frequency of clinical relapses and to delay the accumulation of physical disability;
• the safety data currently known justify the drug’s approval, and the FDA should require a post-marketing study that would proactively gather information about adverse events and longer-term safety, the effects on a broader range of people than were included in the trials, and possible complications of taking other medications including steroids along with fingolimod;
• patients should be monitored during the first dose for possible lowering of heart rate and other potential heart effects, and that some assessments for potential adverse events related to eye (especially macular edema) and lung function be required, to an extent to be determined by the FDA;
• the FDA should consider requiring a study to evaluate whether a lower dose would be as effective as the recommended dose, with fewer adverse events;
• this therapy should be approved as a first-line therapy, meaning that patients would be eligible to take fingolimod without having to try an alternative therapy first.
About the drug: Fingolimod is a new class of therapy in development for treating multiple sclerosis. It binds to a docking site (sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor, or S1P receptor) on immune cells, including T cells and B cells, that have been implicated in causing nervous system damage in MS. The drug appears to induce immune cells to remain in lymph nodes, where they can do little harm, preventing them from migrating into the brain and spinal cord.
Positive results from two large-scale phase III clinical trials have been published showing that fingolimod significantly reduced multiple sclerosis relapse rates. One of the trials also suggested that fingolimod could slow the progression of disability. (New England Journal of Medicine January 20, 2010.) Read more about these studies on our Website. In December 2009, Novartis applied to the FDA and European regulators for marketing approval of this compound for the treatment of relapsing MS.

That is indeed a rubbish headline. If it was a Firefox or OpenOffice.org binary shipped with Ubuntu, then it would be a big deal. But an IRC server? Something that only 0.001% of people ever use?

Oops. Unreal IRC server has a backdoor.
That's not great news, but it is one program not "Linux".
The programmers and maintainers of UnrealIRC have just learnt some valuable lessons. There are reasons for MD5 checksums and PGP/GPG signing and using limited accounts with secure access to servers. If these methods aren't implemented then problems can occur. Notice that CVS and pre-compiled versions weren't affected, just a tarball replaced on the main server.

The vaccine contains a protein found in most breast cancers, but not found in healthy women, except during lactation, now we want to move forward in testing the vaccine in human patients.
Enrollment could begin next year according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The FDA has granted approval to two cancer-prevention vaccines: cervical and liver cancer. However, these vaccines target viruses, while the one tested by the Cleveland Clinic targets cancer formation. If any human testing proves successful, the strategy would be to vaccinate women 40 and over as well as younger women with a heightened risk of breast cancer. There is no funding for human trials at this point, but it has been applied for.

But Speculation is it will take at least 10 years to get the vaccine to normal, healthy women at risk of developing the cancer. It looks to me to be extremely promising

After another failure, BP scrambles to stem leak
Now, BP hopes to saw through a pipe leading out from the well and cap it with a funnel-like device using the same remotely guided undersea robots that have failed in other tries to stop the gusher. Even that effort won't end the disaster — BP officials have only pledged it will capture a majority of the oil. None of the remaining options would stop the flow entirely or capture all the crude before it reaches the Gulf's waters.

Engineers will use remotely guided undersea robots to try to lower a cap onto the leak after cutting off part of a busted pipe leading out from the well. The funnel-like device is similar to a huge containment box that failed before when it became clogged with icelike slush. Dudley said officials learned a lot from that failure and will pump warm water through the pipes to prevent the ice problems.
The spill is the worst in U.S. history — exceeding even the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster — and has dumped between 18 million and 40 million gallons into the Gulf, according to government estimates. The leak began after the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded in April, killing 11 people.

BP kept pumping heavy mud into its blown-out well beneath the Gulf of Mexico on Friday May 28, 2010, but the company's chief executive cautioned it will be two more days before anyone knows if the latest fix attempt will end the uncontrolled flow of crude that has already become the worst oil spill in U.S. history.
The top kill is oil and gas giant BP PLC's latest untested bid to end the spill that has, by the most conservative estimate, surpassed the Exxon Valdez disaster by gushing more than 18 million gallons into the Gulf.

Wake up. Take a shower. Get a coffee. Check Facebook. The average daily routine of most hipster wannabies around the world is pretty tragic, it has to be said. Social network is a worldwide phenomenon. It seems we’re all addicted to hyping ourselves and voyeuristically consuming the minuatea of our friends, acquaintances and more of than not complete strangers’ lives. There's been a heated debate about facebook not being so perfect for sometime. Finally, some guys have done something about it and have announced May 31 as International Quit Facebook Day.

The year 2005 marked the 140th year anniversary of Juneteenth. All across the United States, and beyond, celebrations commemorated this historical event of 1865 in Galveston, Texas. There, on June 19th, when word of the emancipation proclamation finally reached the enslaved, a new and uncertain way of life began. Today, more than 142 years since, African Americans have elevated this celebration, publicly and privately to one of the most important of the year. The 140th year anniversary celebrations across the U.S. marked a significant milestone in American history. Juneteenth serves symbolically, and in reality, as a reference point from which to measure and appreciate the progress and contributions made by African Americans to this society. And, with even more excitement, anticipation and world wide participation, the 150th anniversary campaign is underway. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The campaign, centers around assessment, education, dialogue, acknowledgement and celebration of African American progress since 1865. We invite and encourage everyone to join with us in the planning, development and celebration of this historic campaign. Juneteenth promotes unity and builds self-esteem through reflection, education, and through acknowledgement of achievements.
